Homework Policy

Homework will be given daily during the 2017 - 2018 school year. Homework is very important and work must be shown to get credit for the completion of the assignment. Every student starts each 9-weeks with a 100 homework grade. Each time a student has incomplete homework, they will lose 5 points on their homework grade and receive a Class Dojo Needs Work point. When a new 9-weeks begins, each student will be given a fresh start. For a student to be successful this year during math, I believe homework must be done with the best quality work that is neat, numbered, and organized. 

Tests

Tests will be given at the conclusion of each unit. Tests could include previously learned objectives and so it will be extremely important for students to maintain knowledge and procedures previously learned.  Tests will consist of short-answers or fill in the blank. A total of 12- 15 tests will be given throughout the year.  Work must be shown on each problem in order to receive credit.

Quizzes

Throughout each unit, quizzes will be given periodically after 2 or 3 lessons. The purpose of each quiz is for the teacher to know whether students have effective command of the lessons taught. Quizzes will be shorter than tests and normally given on Wednesdays and Fridays. The only exception is our Integer quizzes. After we have tested on our Integer unit, students will be given an integer quiz every Monday.

In addition to our Integer quizzes, we will also have quizzes on objectives previously learned since the beginning of the year.  This again, helps to ensure that our students are maintaining information and procedures already learned and enable them to build upon those concepts as we move through the year learning new objectives each week.

 Warm-Ups

At the beginning of class each day, students will be given 4 questions for their warm-up. At the beginning of the year, these questions are skills based; however, after a 2 – 3 week period, each warm-up will begin to consist of 4 EOG style word problems.  Students will be quizzed on warm-up questions throughout the year.

Make-Up Work

If a student is absent, it is up to the student to return make-up work. If they will be out for an extended period, we will provide the work before they return by placing it in the office for pick up by a parent. It is very important that students return their work as soon as possible. If a student misses a quiz or test, the teacher will schedule that make-up test for the student once they return. The student will receive notice a few days prior of their quiz or test to give them sufficient time to be prepared.

Extra Credit

No extra credit will be offered. Students receive ample time to be prepared for quizzes and tests. We will spend time reviewing before each test to make sure students understand the concepts that will be covered on that test. Bonus questions may appear on certain tests. Bonus questions will be a level of difficulty higher and students have the opportunity to make a score greater than 100.

Parental / Guardian Contact

I believe that parent – teacher contact whether through email, telephone/cellphone or conferences help students a tremendous amount. In addition to using those forms of communication, I will be in contact with you through Class Dojo and will send group emails throughout the year. Please refer to Class Dojo for homework assignments and my class website for the most up to date information.
